About Project
UNEMAT
Portal of the State University of Mato Grosso. One address serving students, staff, applicants and the wider community at the same time — each looking for something different. Live at unemat.br.
The accessibility bar sits at the very top, before anything else.
Role: architecture, UX/UI, accessibility and front-end.
- Architecture organized by audience, not organizational chart;
- Quick access to the most sought-after tasks;
- eMAG features built into navigation;
- Interfaces designed and implemented in front-end.
The challenge
University portals accumulate. Every department, campus and programme wants space on the home page — and when nobody arbitrates, the result serves the institution rather than the person who just arrived.
The answer was to split by audience rather than by org chart, and to keep visible at the top what most people come for: student portal, staff portal, support, admissions.
What changed in the experience
- 01
People come before structure
The main paths begin with students, staff, applicants and the wider community, reducing the need to understand the university's organisational chart.
- 02
Accessibility is part of navigation
eMAG resources, contrast and priority access points are built into the interface from the start, rather than added as a later layer.
- 03
The prototype reaches the browser
The same visual logic was implemented in responsive front-end code, reducing the distance between the design decision and the published portal.
